Chaywa Abouet

A creche daughter of Akissi, began in the Abouet Clan of Anvard and went to study at the Collegium on Morayel after showing aptitudes in that direction. Akissi had a “feeling” to travel with her, and on the way back from Morayel to Anvard they had many adventures. Chaywa was snapped up by the Magi Clan upon her return. Years later, Chaywa gave Akissi a coin and told her where to go when it stopped glowing. Presumed deceased, although a note to Akissi was delivered at the Gellersway after whatever may have befallen the previous Alshekal cohort. The note may have been a ruse by Dar Aslan to delay the party - the party ignored it.

Enelach

Ramach’s great-uncle, a famed drop-mage, spent some years abroad before returning to Mehujael and, addressing the entire extended family, held aloft a small glowing coin, claiming it held secrets worth far more than the platinum it contained. He promised it to the first in the family who undertook and survived the High Drop from Iradel. Ramach, assisted by liquid courage and peer pressure, made the drop. Enelach gave Ramach the coin and told him where to go when it stopped glowing. Presumed deceased, although In the Vault on Vaaris the party found a Spirit of Intellect vessel containing select memories of Enelach about Alshekal safe houses, buyers, and projects. Ramach committed these to memory. The Spirit of Intellect vessel was then given to Dar Aslan under duress, and lost. Another Enelach SOI was found in the Alshekal house on Iradel, this one of a much younger Enelach and containing his memories of a bad drop and the younger Enelach's obsession with the Barons of Iradel.

Morran

A tough bear of a man and merchant from Empyrean. Late in his career, he began looking to expand his business into the lucrative Zelixan flower business. His extensive travels throughout Raeluna enthralled a young Koros, who Morran hired on for the many trips between the Gate at the Hephrolusk and Zelix City and the Flower Market. During their final meeting outside the Hephrolusk Morran gave Koros a coin and told him where to go when it stopped glowing. Presumed deceased.

Nyana

A sorcerer of Zelix. On a mysterious mission in the Ang mountains, Nyana hired a Redmetal Guild escort to descend deep onto the unexplored lower slopes. While traversing a scree field, the group was beset by a flock of black, winged creatures who made off with or slew all the party except Orosh and Nyana. Through luck and grit, the two returned to the Redmetal fortress. Before Nyana left, Orosh confessed his secret love and yearning for Nyana, who gently rebuffed him. She did, however, say that their business was not yet finished and that Orosh had done a great service for her and her “guild,” called the Alshekal. Nyana gave Orosh a coin and told him where to go when it stopped glowing. Presumed deceased. The party later finds that she primarily stayed in the House on Nade, and activates her SOI there. The Nyana SOI has information about Nyana's search for the Gate Compass.

Thalina

Paetro’s aunt from Vaaris, an island-hopping black sheep younger sibling who left Vaaris as a young woman and occasionally returned to visit and relate exciting tales of her adventures to her impressionable nephew. At age sixteen, following one such visit, Paetro decided to leave with her. They ended up on Anvard, and increasingly Paetro doubted that his aunt had an actual profession, and suspected that however she came by her seemingly bottomless coin purse, it was probably somehow illegal. One day as they sat for breakfast in the otherwise empty common room of a small inn, Thalina gave Paetro a coin and told him where to go when it stopped glowing. She then said she had to leave on an important errand and would be back in a few days, but she never returned. Presumed deceased, although on Anvard the party recovered from Dar Aslan a Spirit of Intellect vessel containing select memories of Thalina about the Vault on Vaaris and the existence of the Alshekal.

Alvash

A Collegium trained mage, origin unknown. Master and teacher to young Mote. Presumed deceased.

Mote

A Collegium trained mage from the Outer Island of Chalk who travelled extensively with his master, Alvash. Alvash gave Mote a coin and told him where to go when it stopped glowing. He then vanished, and Mote traveled the Gates alone, offering his services in the Travertons and near Cities while waiting to return home at the next Gate opening to Chalk. When the coin stopped glowing he came to the Gellersway, thereby assuring that he would miss the next available opening - in joining the Alshekal he has stranded himself in the Core Islands for another 6 years. Mote is a nervous sort, fidgety and prone to literally vanish at the first sign of danger, but has shown resourcefulness and bravery to the benefit of the party on occasion. On Wisp, he evidently incinerated one Arcanist and threw another over a quarter mile, but then passed out and has no memory of doing so. His very head glows with necromancy and conjuration auras, but he seems utterly unaware of his own strange nature. On Nade, Mote collapsed and a much older SOI version of Mote appeared, saying he had been observing them from the Gellersway. He confirmed the party as Alshekal and informed them of their purpose as watchers and foils of the Arcanists's more...non-human endeavors. Mote then leaves the party.

Alard Hoster

Innkeep of the Gellersway on Anvard, and the very picture of the Hotelier Guild type. He is short and pleasantly portly, with neatly cut hair and well made but understated Anvardi clothing. His Travit is severely accented in Low Anvardi, but with his enthusiasm and beaming tanned face he makes himself understood, clearly taking pleasure in accommodating his guests. He shines with the pride of providing quality rooms, food, and service. Last seen happy and healthy at the Gellersway, quietly concerned that the incident in his inn might lose his Clan the fat contract form the Alshekal.

Prok

A rogue in a small Clannless thieve’s guild in Anvard City, from a Clannless barrio near the Greengate. Prok hired on at the Gellersway to spy on the goings-on leading up to the first party gathering there, and then stole a box containing a Thalina Spirit of Intellect vessel (though he had no idea what it was). Instead of delivering it to his guild, he went directly to the man who hired them, Dar Aslan. In doing so he betrayed his own, and was presumably going to be hunted down and punished. Last seen the night before the theft, serving the party dinner.

Dar Aslan

A merchant, or possibly a rogue, or possibly a competitor to the Alshekal, a collector of rare objects and ancient treasures. Dar hired thieves on Anvard to steal the Thalina Spirit of Intellect vessel that was to be the party’s introduction to the Alshekal. The party forcibly took it back, but not before Dar somehow activated it and tricked the Thalina spirit into giving him the location of the Vault on Vaaris. Whether or not Dar was looking for this information or was just following an opportunity is not clear. The party then ran into several roadblocks and delays set out by Dar Alsan; a “distress note” from Akissi’s daughter Chaywa, hired Grovan Clan goons on Anvard, an arrest by the Baraki authorities at the Traverton on Vaaris. He got to the Vault on Vaaris first, but the party got into the Vault and retrieved its contents first...only to be waylaid by Dar and overmatched by his hired help at the entrance. Dar offered the party their lives for the contents of the Vault, and the party had no choice but to oblige. Later on Wisp the party learned that Dar somehow misinformed Paetro’s father that it was Paetro who killed his aunt Thalina and stole a family treasure from the vault, causing Paetro’s father to hire a posse of Uldan Vaaris Home Guard and Orn Riders to chase and capture Paetro, and dispose of the rest of the party. Last “seen” leaving Vaaris for Anvard, in the company of his hired mage Kander and in the illusionary guise of Biolo. Later the party sought information on Dar from a fence on Nade named Palmach, and found out much more about him (see Adventures, Persistence and Patience)and that Dar is planning an expedition to Balmach.

Kander

An ill-kempt, portly, short, limping, collegium trained mage-for-hire residing on Anvard. Dar Alsan hired Kander for the raiding of the Vault on Vaaris and the accompanying shenanigans. Among his skills are creating good illusions. He “made” a huge beast guard outside the Vault on Vaaris, and seemingly disguised Dar Aslan while in the Vaaris Traverton after the Vault incident. The party saw him leaving Vaaris to return to Anvard with “Biolo”, presumably Dar Aslan in an illusory disguise. Last seen on Nade with an assortment of Dar Alsan hirelings preparing for en expedition to Nade.

Biolo

A towering Uldan wearing traditional pants and an old armless leather vest with various studs of polished stone. Paetro knows him to be a roustabout and bar brawler on Vaaris, a sort of drunken social outcast still hired for his brawn. His arms are ropy masses of muscle, and his beefy face displays the remains of many punches. Dar Aslan hired him for muscle during his raid on the Varris Vault, and Orosh “interviewed” him after the job over several pints of ale. Last seen drinking away his Dar Alsan payday at a tavern in the Traverton on Vaaris.

Farun

The innkeep at the Red Earth Inn at the Vaaris Traverton, the inn with a suite reserved for Alshekal. Farun is friendly, discreet, and knows the locals well. He doesn’t ask into Alshekal business, and is happy to have the money for rooms that sit empty most of the time. Last seen behind his bar at the Red Earth Inn.

The Scamps

Children from the neighborhood around the Red Earth Inn, in the Traverton on Vaaris, known by the innkeep Farun and used by the party to “scout” around the townwhile the party hid from the local Baraki authorities. Last seen enjoying a pile of sweets at the Red Earth as their final reward for helping the party.

Galdis

A captain in the local Baraki guard in the Traverton on Vaaris with a taste for pastries (and bribes). Galdis arranged to let the party through the Gate from Vaaris to Wisp despite the rest of the guard searching for the party to assuage their pride, injured by the party’s easy escape from the local lock-up. Last seen being accosted by the local Wispans who came through the Gate to beg relief and refuge from some kind of beastly invasion.

Laan

A Wispan boy whose farmer father was “retrieved” by the party from corrupted creature captivity.  He took a quick worshipful liking to the party, and is keen to help them in any way he can.

Yesu

An Arcanist in the “troubleshooting” branch of the Arcanists. Came to Wisp to help clear it of corruption. Friendly and grateful for the party’s work in killing the corrupted creatures, and shared with Paetro that a posse was forming on the Vaaris side of the Wisp-Vaaris gate with the intent of coming after Paetro and his associates. Seemed to recognize Mote. He was willing to delay reporting the completion of their work in exchange for a “conversation” with Mote, and was tossed a quarter mile over Wispan grassland for his trouble. Last seen unconscious near the edge of Wisp Island, and disappeared before the party could heal or wake him. Confirmed to be deceased by SOI Mote on Nade.

Talmad

Arcanist in the “troubleshooting” branch of the Arcanists. Came to Wisp to help clear it of corruption. Friendly and grateful for the party’s work in killing the corrupted creatures. Seemed to recognize Mote. He was willing to delay reporting the completion of their work (see entry for Yesu) in exchange for a “conversation” with Mote, and was incinerated for his troubles. Deceased.

Taredo

A captain in the Uldan Vaaris Home Guard, and a conservative who feels Uldan Vaaris should be left to Uldans. He led a squad of Home Guard and Orn Riders sent to Wisp after Paetro and the party, but based on false information given to Paetro's father. A keen observer of character and a discerner of truth, Taredo concluded that Paetro and the party were innocent of those accusations, but not before a few scuffles with the party and unfortunate deaths on the Uldan side. His ire was soon directed at Dar Alsan, and he and his Uldans were last seen leaving Wisp to Nade, from there to hunt down Dar Alsan if they can.  Presumed to now be on Anvard or even back on Vaaris.

Anwel

A magic user in Taredo's Uldan Vaaris Home Guard troop. The Home Guard does not typically deploy such people, and he dresses as a regular soldier to maintain an element of surprise when they encounter a foe.

Lakim

An Arcanist assigned to the tiny Island of Wisp. As of the year 500, he has served two cycles of 8 years each, and was presumably assigned to a third. He is very aged 40-ish years old, laconic and sour. When the Wisp Gate opens, he tends to spend as much time as possible on the other side of it.

Miksaji Palmach

A Mehujaelite exile who acts as a fence on Nade for strange objects and artifacts, a friend of the Alshekal passed to the party from the memories of Enelach.  He is contacted by wearing two red items at a certain market and waiting for instructions. Items sold to Miksaji are often at a discount, but pay usually includes rumors of other high end items. The party contacted him to sell larger Ancient Race bones they picked up on Wisp. Palmach is careful, working through intermediaries at first and never meeting in the same place twice. After accepting the party as the Alshekal's successors, he buys the bones and provides dirt on Dar Aslan. He also provides a lead on Rinsluk, a man Nyana believes may have had the Gate Compass last, and has the party raid the slaughterhouse cellar of Palmach's rival Revis to retrieve more information.

Yorika

The leader of a small "second story" thieves guild on Nade.  The party knocked over his group to steal back an item requested by Miksaji Palmach. Although none of them were killed, the guild was left badly beaten and Yorika intimidated into giving up his entire loot bag.

Chull

Dean of the craftworks at the Collegium, and quietly buys arcane items either to research or resell, or possible claim as his own. Chull meets his sellers surreptitiously in the back of an inn in the Hanging Village. He can be stingy and cranky, but his discretion is outstanding and has proven to be true to his word in all ways

Kersp

Collegium Magi for hire on Anvard, rumored to be a loose canon who was culled from the Magi Clan. An evoker. Last seen on Nade with Kander, Foric, and a team of hirelings of Dar Alsan preparing an expedition to Balmach.

Foric

A gatesman, for hire to shepherd goods through the Gates and Travertons. Koros hired him on Nade to deliver a sham box to Mehujael in order to gain information about a route he was taking in the hire of Dar Aslan.

Rinsluk

A surface explorer and dealer in surface artifacts. Years ago, gave Nyana some bad information about the location of the Gate Compass on Angbol. Nyana thinks he may have stolen it from the Brightstar Guild of Angbol and kept it himself. He was last seen by Nyanaon Nade, and the party finds that he went to a fence named Revis to get himself off the Island. Revis in turn sent him to Baron Erodan of Iradel. In a trade with the Baron, the party learns that Rinsluk owns a tavern at the Mehujaeli dropper village of Abarel on Iradel.  The party confronts him there, only to be attacked by Brightstar Guild agent Borlu and several Brightstar champions. Rinsluk had tried to hide out and settle into the life of a tavern-keep, but in the attack his wife and small child are murdered by Borlu and his tavern is burned to the ground. In exchange for revenge on Borlu (Rinsluk kills him after the party captured him), the former explorer tells the party that he sold the Gate Compass to a feckless Baron Bredini before walking away from luckless tragedy.

Revis

A fence on Nade, a competitor of Miksaji Palmach. Operates out of a slaughterhouse front business. Specializes in getting people off of Nade undetected. The party raided his subterranean hideout and defeated his "Drag Dogs" to retrieve his ledger to find out where he may have sent Rinsluk. Never encountered in person.

Borlu

An agent of the Brightstar Guild from Angbol who was hunting Rinsluk. The party defeated him, and his Brightstar Guild Champions, in Rinsluk's tavern outside Abarel on Iradel. The party allowed a distraught Rinsluk (and over Akissi's objections) to take his revenge on the unconscious Borlu. Deceased.

Baroness Bredini of Iradel

Heiress to the late Baron, who was an Alshekal contact and buyer of old. She renews the deal with the party, and is still interested in magic items and any leads on their lost collection, but lets them know that her house is cash poor and will need to trade in credit or favors. She provided the party with an introduction to the Baron Erodan of Iradel. Later she made a second deal with the party, giving them pieces of a "fake" Gate Compass if they find and return her wayward younger sister, Aidra Bredini.

Baron Erodan of Iradel

A man with a reputation for making people disappear, physically and from arcane prying eyes. His family always marries random Iradel natives. Secretive and only accessible through reliable introductions. He made a deal with the party, trading a year of protection from divination and the location of RInsluk for the opportunity to study one of the Alshekal coins for a time. Koros took the offer for the party.  The Baron later came and took possession of Borlu's body and a captured Brightstar Guild champion.

Trinik

A trusted assistant to Baron Erodan, later revelated to be Borlu, an agent from Angbol and a Brightstar agent tracking Rinsluk. Deceased.

Aidra Bredini

Younger sister to Baroness Bredini of Iradel. Believes their late father's death to be foul play, and has spent the last year on forays to other Islands to prove this theory. The party tracks her through investigation and her father's signet ring to a building in Nade City, a spice and rare foods shop. They rescue her from the corrupt proprietors, and she joins the party (or the party joins her) on a quest for the Gate Compass, sometimes getting ahead of the party and sometimes following them. At Camp Harrow, the party finds her turned to stone. Back on Nade, they un-petrify her and offer to broker the sale of her recovered Gate Compass. She accepts.

Trask

The owner of a rare foods and spice market in Nade City. Also the local leader of a kind of cult answering to a master on the "farm", a mysterious place in rural Nade. They were storing corrupt yellow pollen similar to (if not the same as) the dust form the weeds on Wisp, intending to eventually slip in into the food they sold. They also exposed enemies to the pollen in cells under the market, turning them into some kind of dim hulking corrupt creatures. Trask and his followers took the Gate Compass from Baron Bredini and killed him, delivering the object to the farm shortly before their "master" took up residence there. Bested by the party and killed by Aidra Bredini. Deceased.

Jacobi

A gateman on Nade who was the exclusive inter-Island shipper for Placido Terra. The party learned through examination of his old invoices that a Gate Compass sized object was shipped for a considerable sum to islet 42 of the The Concord on Uldrath, a place also known as Helkala's Hold. Last seen in the tatters of his office after an attack by Aidra Bredini.

Helkaka

A Rathi Magi, heir of a family whose ancestors were sorcerous advisors to the Anax of the Rathi. In his 60s, rich, and reported to be quite a big deal in the Uldrathi social scene. Owns his own small islet in the Concord of Uldrath. In the search for the Gate Compass the players found that Helkala used minions to steal it from Baron Bredini (then had him killed), had the Compass shipped to his islet (Helkala's Hold), and has been using it to sneak corruption onto the Islands without triggering the Gate Guardians.  The party raided his Hold, and found a permanently open teleportation circle that took them to the surface.  On the surface they found Camp Harrow, an expedition funded by Helkala to ostensibly establish a gold mine under an Ancient Race ruin. The party finds upon raiding the ruin that Camp Harrow is where Helkala is sourcing the corruption he is spreading on the Islands. Slain in battle with the party. Deceased.

Dig

A hunter on the surface based in the the Empty Plaza. He and few of his fellows were hired on to Helkala's expedition at Camp Harrow, about 50 miles from the Gate at Empty Plaza. Left at Camp Harrow with a monstrous corrupted horde of monsters bearing down on it. Presumed deceased.

Lorn

The quartermaster of Camp Harrow on the surface. An early worker who lost three limbs in monster attacks and dos not expect to make it back to the Islands. Left at Camp Harrow with a monstrous corrupted horde of monsters bearing down on it. Presumed deceased.

Stone and Rekel

Adventurers who were hired by Helaka to find information about something called "Ogdoas". When they brought the information to Camp Harrow, Helakal petrified them both. The party "rescued" Stone's statue and un-petrified him back in Nade. He told them his story and left, presumably back to The Citadel on Barakeel where he makes his home. His partner Rekel is presumably still a statue on the surface at Camp Harrow.

Little Grapak

A giant of a man and leader of a Traverton warrior clan on Darrowmar known as the Viprathi. The party tangled with the clan, and Orosh and Grapak fought in single combat. Grapak won, and then Ramach incinerated most of his followers. Later, Grapak brought the rest of his clan to ambush the party and get revenge, mostly targeting Ramach. The party barely beat them all, killed most of the attackers, and brought Little Grapak low, leaving him with two crossbow bolts in his eye atop a pile of the corpses of his erstwhile clan.

Doran

A self-titled minor functionary of the Empyrean Court of the Mage-King, Doran met the party on Darrowmar on a mission to look for Moran, a former Alshekal (although Doran doesn't know this) and apparently important enough on Empyrean to send a mission after. His bodyguards were slaughtered by the Viprathi clan and he joins the party on their travels on Darrowmar, as they are looking for the same people. He is later revealed to be AngelTouched, and a skilled battle-healer.

The Mordrin

The leader the Mordrin clan on Darrowmar, and primary sorcress advisor to the Anaxar, warlord ruler of Darrowmar. She is served by (or makes, or recruits?) high-functioning undead warriors known as necrobinds. The party finds that she had made deals with the predecessor Alshekal during their time on Darrowmar, and make a few with her themselves.

Javal

An armorer the party met on Darrowmar. Javal was selling leather and plate at the Weaponsmoot, and the party bought him a second cart in exchange for hidden passage from Darrowmar to Morayel.

Akbar

A vendor of daggers the party met at the Weaponsmoot on Darrowmar. The Baraki sold Koros three daggers that were later found to have a tracking sigil stamped into their pommels.

Amal

An Arcanist of the Zindashti branch. Began taking an interest in and tracking the party on Darrowmar.

Rasul

An Arcanist of the Zindashti branch. Began taking an interest in and tracking the party on Darrowmar.
