Akissi Abouet

A wandering soldier-mystic, originally of the Abouet Clan of Anvard City, a clan that largely deals with textiles and dyeing, although she appears as a veteran fighter.  Around 60 years of age, stout and short, not even 5 feet in height, with black skin and dreads that are a mix of black and grey at this point. She stumps along with a worn sheathed short sword she uses as a cane, and a massive wooden shield strapped to her back that is about as big as she is. Her bright red dress is often frayed at the edges but made of thick fabric with intricate patterns dyed into the panels, and her beaten, wide-brimmed straw hat is her most defining feature. She usually has a wide grin on her face.

Full Description 

Akissi usually has a wide grin as she walks about, often stopping to contemplate an interesting flower or rock, and to chat to strangers, travelers, and children (and occasionally animals).

Akissi has been married twice, the first in a Abouet Clan group marriage with multiple partners and a creche child-raising system, so she has many "children", even though not all are her biological descendants. At around the age of 30, she suddenly left Anvard City and has been traveling the Islands ever since. She married a Jameran at some point during these journeys, and had two children with him, though he has since returned with the children back to Jamerah.

Akissi is extremely friendly and welcoming on first appearance, and naturally seems to engender trust in even those who don't know her well. The abrupt shift from her Clan life in Anvard City was due to a sudden "voice" or "feeling" she got that she had something more important to do. Her journeys ever since have been based on following these feelings until she arrived "where she was needed". As she followed this voice, she began to develop powers that did not seem to follow the abilities of the magi or even the Arcanists, including the ability to heal the afflicted and sense danger in others.

One of her creche daughters, Chaywa Abouet, developed a magical ability and studied with the Collegium of Magic on Morayel. Akissi had a feeling to accompany Chaywa back from Morayel when she left the Collegium, and together they had some dangerous adventures before getting Chaywa back to Anvard City. Years later, when they crossed paths again, Chaywa tried to press a platinum coin of the Alshekal on her mother. Akissi refused, as she "had to follow another path", but upon Chaywa's insistence, she took the coin without any obligation.

Many years later, Akissi had the feeling to head back to Anvard City, and as she got close to her destination, she realized it was the same inn Chaywa had told her about so long ago. She fished the coin out of her massive backpack and saw it was no longer glowing...
