Full Description
Orosh (or more fully, Second Scout Orosh Rathvasiviak) was born and grew to manhood on the Island of Rath. He was raised to be a warrior, running the valleys, and climbing the sheer walls of the canyon lands. From his earliest days, Orosh yearned to be an orn rider, and worked in his clan caring for the orn and learning the weapons of his people. Orosh dreams of flight were dashed by actually growing up, ultimately becoming a giant of a man, the tallest and — unfortunately for Orosh — the heaviest of his clan and many clans around. In choosing which youth would go on to learn how to ride, the clan elders immediately cut Orosh from consideration. He would forever be condemned to being a passenger. The initial pain of rejection did not fade and eventually festered into deep resentment: Orosh felt he could never prosper in his clan and on Rath. Lured by the stories of the islands beyond Uldrath, Orosh bade goodbye to his clan and left to find his fortune among the islands.
As a feckless youth of 16, he tried to find work at many trades. His huge stature was a boon in finding work as a laborer and he tried to parlay his meagre wages into a greater fortune. However, he was taken in on a speculative venture to the surface, borrowing money to invest in what proved to be a fictional expedition. Faced with paying back a debt that he could not afford, he fled to Angbol where he pledged a Turn of work to the Redmetal Guild to pay off his debts. Once his debts were clear, Orosh remained in the Ang and worked as a miner for a while before he was recruited into a warrior cult and trained in their secret ways. He began to undertake excursions down the slopes of the frigid southern peaks, defending against raids and rockeater attacks, even fighting the rarer beasts of the Ang. Over the course of several years, he rose in the ranks of the Guild to a rank of Second Scout, travelling more with prospector groups. He journeyed through the caves and slopes of the mountains, ever in search of new ores and metals. Friends were made; friends were lost. Orosh’s wisdom and knowledge of fighting grew.
On a recent trip, an outsider paid the Redmetal guild handsomely for an escort down the peaks toward an unknown location. Orosh was assigned to the scouting party. This outsider turned out to be a beautiful Zelexi woman named Nyana, who quickly snared Orosh’s heart. The band travelled farther than Orosh had ever gone from the guild fortress, guided toward some destination that Nyana was seeking. They never made it: while traversing a scree field, the group was beset by a flock of black, winged creatures who made off with or slew all the party except Orosh and Nyana. In the battle, both Nyana and Orosh were badly wounded. Nyana decided she stood little hope of reaching her mysterious destination and directed Orosh to turn back. Through luck and grit, they returned to the Redmetal fortress and Nyana returned to the Cradle on the next Turn of Angbol. Before she left, Orosh confessed his secret love and yearning for Nyana, who gently rebuffed him. She did, however, say that their business was not yet finished and that Orosh had done a great service for her and her “guild,” called the Alshekal. She left him with an enchanted coin and instructions of what he should do should it grow brighter or fade.
Orosh spent some time pining for Nyana, dreaming of what their future “business" would be, and one day the coin winked out. He took his seventh brand for time in the Ang, stepped aboard the Island of Angboland headed north to start the next chapter of his life.
The details: Orosh stands 6’ 6” and weighs 240 lbs. He has blue eyes, long black hair, and his skin has the ashen grey tone of someone who has spent too much time in the Ang. He is a Barbarian (Totem Warrior / Bear) with a Soldier background. In these warm climes, he is usually wearing only a vest and loose trousers, though the thick layers of cold weather gear are stuffed into his pack. He primarily fights with a halberd that is as tall as he is.
