Ramach
A Drop-Mage of Mehujael. Fair complexion, like most Mehujaelites, and of average build. Nine tattoos on his right forearm signify his successful drops. He carries a long-limbed insect in a wicker cage, a souvenir of his very first trip to the surface.
Full Description
Ramach was the youngest of five; both his parents were droppers. When he was four, they left for a drop and never returned. He and his siblings were raised by their aunt and uncle in a small home full of boisterous cousins. Like most of his family, he had a talent for magic; like some in his family, he became a dropper. As a drop-mage, he specialized in getting parties to and from the surface in safety. Thus far, he has survived eight daytime drops and a single overnight.
One year ago, his great-uncle Enelach returned from years abroad. Addressing the entire extended family, Enelach held aloft a small glowing coin, claiming it held secrets worth far more than the platinum it contained. He promised it to the first in the family who undertook and survived the High Drop from Iradel. A week later, the gate to Iradel opened. Ramach, after too little dinner and too much Anvardic wine, boasted to a crowded tavern that he would undertake the High Drop and claim the coin.
Standing on a cold and windy ledge on Iradel, empty night sky below, he sobered up quickly. But cousins and friends and strangers and a longtime crush had gathered to see if he'd follow through, and pride got the better of judgement. Mehujaelite farmers discovered him unconscious but alive in a field a day later.
As the sole survivor in living memory of a nighttime High Drop, Ramach earned both the coin and a certain notoriety. A few younger teams specializing in high-risk drops sought him out; more mature droppers kept their distance. He found his reputation both thrilling and stressful, so he had mixed feelings when the coin's glow faded a few months ago and he departed for Anvard.
