Islands in the Skies

Humanity includes thirty two settled sky Islands in the known world, many named for an angel of the Heirolastic Lore. Each travels an elliptical path covering hundreds to thousands of miles. Twelve Core Islands are clustered relatively near to one another, and include the five Cradle Islands where humanity first flourished. Their Gates are opened frequently and the settlements of humanity are primarily built on the Core Islands.  The remaining twenty Outer Islands are often isolated for years at a time, and are home to humanity's stranger cultures and architecture.

Islands beyond the thirty two are said to exist, but their travels are thought to be too erratic and dangerous to settle on, or even explore.
